In a historic move to ignite a love for reading and promote sustainability, BookXcess is making books more accessible than ever with Malaysia’s largest free book giveaway.
Starting April 4 until 6, 2025, BookXcess is giving away 200,000 books for free to anyone at its KL East Mall outlet.
Each individual is entitled to a maximum of 10 books only. Books are given out on a first-come, first-served basis, while stock last.
Held in the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, this initiative aligns with BookXcess’s mission to make books accessible to all while championing sustainability by giving books a second chance at life.
BookXcess co-founder Andrew Yap said the books featured in this giveaway have reached the end of their shelf life at Big Bad Wolf Books and the BookXcess warehouse.
“Rather than being discarded, these literary treasures will be placed in the hands of eager readers – proving that every book has a story worth telling and a reader waiting to discover it,” he said.
“Every book has the power to inspire, teach and open doors to new possibilities. This event is about ensuring that no book is left behind and that more people have access to the knowledge and joy that reading brings,” he added.

A highlight of the event is welcoming 40 children from Orion Home, a shelter for orphans and underprivileged children, supported by Budimas Charitable Foundation.
These young readers received books personally from BookXcess founders Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng, alongside special guest Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
BookXcess co-founder Jacqueline Ng said the BookXcess Free Book Giveaway is not just an event but a movement to advocate for literacy, sustainability and equal access to knowledge.
“This initiative is a reminder that books are not just objects; they are gateways to new worlds, deserving of second chances and new beginnings.
“Reading is a right, not a privilege. Our mission is to make books accessible to all and to foster a lifelong love for reading. This event is the embodiment of that dream,” she said.
BookXcess invites the community to KL East Mall from April 4 to 6 to be part of this remarkable celebration of literacy, sustainability and community.
