AniManGaki, one of Malaysia’s biggest anime, comics and games convention, has announced an expanded 3-day convention this year from Aug 25-27, and has once again chosen Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) in Seri Kembangan, Selangor to host the event.
Celebrating its 15th year, AniManGaki 2023 has expanded their convention to three days, instead of the usual two, adding new changes.
The new changes include more booths to both the Artist and Cosplay Alleys, expanding the panel room to a bigger space to accommodate more seating and a Makan Corner for attendees to dine in comfortably.
“Our universe may be 26.7 billion years old, yet AniManGaki safely turns 15 years old this year. I do wonder how AniManGaki will continue to evolve in the future. My hope is that it continues to serve our Malaysian animation, comics and games community well,” said AniManGaki founder and director Yvonne Sing.
Through the three days, from Friday through Sunday, fans and visitors will have the opportunity to explore the jam-packed non-stop contents and activities, including stage performance, competitions and exhibitions.
The convention will play host to 88 of the top cosplayers from Southeast Asia at the Cosplay Alley, and will have over 250 artist booths, with another 80 exhibitors, including education institutions and merchandise sellers who will showcase their products and services.
Cosplayers are what make an anime convention complete and they will be seen in abundant during the convention, dressing up as their favourite characters to show off their originality and knowledge.
The cosplayers will present their best cosplay creating ability during the cosplay competition which will be held on Day 3, Aug 27 at 3pm.
There will be a movie screening of The Garden of Words on Day 1, Aug 25 and Day 2, Aug 26 at 7.30 pm and 7pm respectively.
Sky: Children of the Light, a puzzle-adventure game by developed and published by thatgamecompany, will be making their first Southeast Asia convention debut appearance at AniManGaki 2023.
There will be a Guinness World Record attempt by Sky: Children of the Light for Most Users in a Concert Themed Virtual World, happening online on Day 1, Aug 25 at 9pm.
Special guests flown in by AniManGaki for the convention include Hakken, a superstar cosplayer, model and Tokyo Tourism Ambassador, who has amassed millions of fans around the world, and JKT48 (Short of Jakarta48), an Indonesian-Japanese idol girl group in Indonesia and the first overseas sister group of Japanese idol group AKB48. Fans can catch their performance live on Day 2, Aug 26 at 8.30pm.
Fans will be able to meet and greet with JKT48 as special guest on Day 3, Aug 27 at 1.30pm.
Featured guests who will be working with brands and exhibitors at the convention are content creator Pudds, artist Jon Tham, comic artist Shimin, Keith and Kaoru, streamer Shykuroboo, cosplayer and streamer Ristelle, comic artist and designer Faezal Tan, doodle master Kendylife and a list of cosplayers including Celine Yan, Joan, Lea, Yingtze, Prestonles, Yosuke and Mikki.
The stage will feature live performances by BoiledCurry X Kanlyss, Keisuke Ito, Hikari, Bin Yun, Ryukku-K, JKT48, Tigers Federation and Amelia Khor Band, among others.
This year there will be two maid cafes organised by Project Meido – Anone Anone, a Cells at Work inspired themed maid cafe where guests get to try out the desserts served by cute meidos and be entertained by their performances.
Visitors can enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience at ICU Concafe, a hospital-themed concept cafe where guests will be entertained by cosplayers roleplaying as doctors and nurses.
