STM Lottery Sdn Bhd continues its tradition of spreading joy for the Chinese New Year by extending a helping hand to over 18,000 needy senior citizens nationwide with its 37th Sports Toto Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign.

The kick-off of the initiative at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur on Jan 18, 2024 saw some 3,000 eligible senior citizens, including residents from four old folk homes in the Klang Valley, participating in the ceremony.

Present at the launch event were guest of honour Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, Sports Toto Bhd chairman Dato’ Sri Robin Tan and its chief executive officer Nerine Tan.

Spanning 50 cities and towns nationwide, the six-day donation campaign aims to benefit a minimum of 18,000 elderly citizens. Each recipient will receive an ang pow, a mini hamper and mandarin oranges.

In her welcome speech, Nerine said the corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiative is an integral part of STM Lottery’s Helping Hands programme, going beyond monetary contributions to lend a helping hand to those who need it most.

“It goes beyond the tangible gifts; it brings smiles, warmth and a sense of community. It reminds us all that in the spirit of Chinese New Year, we are not just a company but a family, sharing the joy and blessings with those less fortunate,” she said.

Since its initiation in 1988, the charitable campaign has contributed over RM25.6 million, benefiting more than 455,000 old folk in need across the country.

Beyond festive donations, the program also lends support to national sports development and various social sustainability projects, including sports sponsorships, food bank initiatives and environmental conservation campaigns.
