Alpro Pharmacy’s newest outlet opens at KidZania Kuala Lumpur

In conjunction with World Pharmacist Day, Malaysia’s largest prescription pharmacy chain, Alpro Pharmacy, launched its newest outlet at KidZania Kuala Lumpur on Sept 12, 2024.

As the only pharmacy in the interactive indoor theme park designed for kids, Alpro Pharmacy joined the buzzing neighborhood that presents more than 70 role-play activities in a miniature city, offering children the chance to experience different professions through realistic, immersive experiences.

Alpro Pharmacy chief pharmacist and engagement director Lim En Ni said the expansion into KidZania Kuala Lumpur is in alignment with the company’s vision for a healthy and vibrant world.

“At Alpro Pharmacy, our mission is to provide opportunities, health and guidance to anyone striving for a better life. It is essential to introduce children early to the crucial role pharmacists play in their lives, particularly in ensuring medication safety,” she said in her speech at the launch event.  

“KidZania’s unique setting allows us to engage children through role-play activities that develop their critical thinking, self-knowledge, and creativity. It also promotes life-shaping values such as respect, responsibility, and integrity.”

Lim also highlighted the theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day, ‘Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs,’ and the role of community pharmacists in supporting the nation in its fight against chronic diseases such as eczema and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and transition to the projected ageing nation status by 2030.

Also present at the launch event were Health Ministry deputy director general of health (pharmaceutical services) Norhaliza A Halim, Sim Leisure Group chief commercial officer Elyse Ng and Alpro Pharmacy co-founder Ph. Dr Hiew Fei Tsong.

Alpro Pharmacy senior management present at the event included its procurement director Ph. Wong Wen Jun; operation manager Ph. Ter Jee Yang; expansion directors Wong Ching Yaw and Wah Eng Foo; and operations, warehouse, logistics and distribution director Ph. Wong Siew Piin.

Kids can step into their roles as little pharmacists at Alpro Pharmacy outlet at KidZania Kuala Lumpur.

Alpro Pharmacy at KidZania Kuala Lumpur offers children a unique opportunity to explore the world of a community pharmacist through 20-minute interactive activities and real-life experiences.

The outlet features a compounding lab where children can create their own soothing gel with guidance from professionals at the outlet. They can also take home their personalised gel, which is designed to calm eczema and relief of minor burns.

The hands-on experience give the little pharmacists valuable insights into the crucial role pharmacists play in daily life and their responsibility in safeguarding community health and medical safety.

“With more than 300 outlets nationwide, our community pharmacists are accessible and available to serve the community on primary healthcare and disease prevention. Apart from advice on medication, we also provide services such as smoking cessation, family planning and pain management. What’s more, is that our operation hours are longer than most hospitals and clinics, and talking to us doesn’t require any appointment, and no consultation fees will be charged,” Lim said.

Alpro Pharmacy at KidZania Kuala Lumpur has ongoing vacancies for pharmacists-wannabes from the age of 6. It is open from 10 am. to 6 pm daily.
