Kiranjit Kaur is the newly crowned Mrs Universe Malaysia 2021.

The product specialist and Master’s student in Counselling Psychology from Kuala Lumpur will represent Malaysia at the Mrs Universe 2021 pageant to be held in Seoul, South Korea in June this year.

Kiranjit, 43, a single mother of two children aged 12 and 9, said she felt honoured to get the title and hope to do the country proud in the international competition.

“I feel on the top of the world but at the same time I feel it’s a huge responsibility as I’m the role model for the younger generation out there,” she said.

Kiranjit is excited to represent Malaysia on the world stage.

“I’ll be carrying the Malaysian flag in Korea representing my beloved country and I am so honoured with that. I will be going the extra mile to make my fellow Malaysians proud.”

Kiranjit is an exemplary mother. When her marriage ended, the hard-working single mom was determined to continue to be a good competent proud mother.

Her story of strength, courage, determination and capability to raise her two children alone with full of love, do housework and chores and pursuing master while also having a full-time job bring out the supermum in her.

“This pageant journey is never easy but I don’t believe in giving up and I will continue and finish what I have started.”

Kiranjit has always dreamt of achieving big and the title win has given her a sense of fulfilment to play an essential role to benefit society.

“I hope to create awareness among the young generation to start their lives right. Being a victim of colourism myself, it has affected my confidence and self-esteem growing up.

“I would like to pass the message to everyone out there, be it male or female, you are beautiful the moment you start believing in yourself. You are in charge of your own destiny.”

Kiranjit also uses her social media platform to raise awareness and encourages communities to support someone in need. She is planning to start and run an NGO for single mums.

“Currently I’m running my NGO activities on my own like raising funds for single mums or whoever needs it. I’m using my social media platform for it. At the same time, I do get request occasionally from single mothers for a job, and I’ll publish it on my Facebook and God blessing there are many kind souls who would come forward and help them.

“I’m planning to set up my own NGO for single mothers and do my best to guide them to rebuild their lives and move forward.”

Feeling more motivated and inspired to achieve her goal, Kiranjit has stepped up her preparations ahead of the Mrs Universe final in June.

“I’m very much looking forward for the grand finals in Korea though I’m a bit nervous. I’ve started to work on my speech, Q&A, catwalk and most importantly I need to be mentally prepared as I’ll be competing with contestants from 90 countries. I’m being trained by my national director Ammetta Malhotra and assistant director Previtra Rajah.”

Kiranjit, a business marketing (Hons) graduate from University of Northumbria, UK. is now studying in her final year of the master program in counselling psychology. She was drawn to the course because of her personal experience in marriage that didn’t work out as she planned.

“I have decided to pursue my studies in counselling psychology due to my own traumatic experience. I have then decided to become a certified counsellor to help all those who need an emotional support especially the single mums. Being a single mum myself, I know how challenging it can be so I want to help these beautiful souls by guiding them the right way.

“Sometimes people don’t need monetary help, all they need is a listening ear and emotional support. I want to serve people by guiding and offering emotional support while providing them counselling sessions. For those who need it, I’m always there to listen to them and help as much as I could.”

Kiranjit has an empowering message to remind people to treat others with the respect they deserve.

“I’d like to convey a message to everyone out there, beauty is not what you look like, beauty comes from within, be kind and humble to others.

“Never judge people because we never know what situation are they in or what are they going through especially for divorcees and single mums. Society has been very judgemental towards them, we need to start treating everyone equally despite their status, race or apparency only then the world will be a beautiful place to live in.”

The franchise holder and national director for Mrs Universe Malaysia 2021 and 2022 Ammetta Malhotra said she was impressed with Kiranjit’s drive, dedication, good interpersonal skills and genuine beauty.

“I am confident Kiranjit will perform well in the grand finals and make Malaysia proud,” she said.

The Mrs Universe 2021 pageant final has been delayed by a year to June 2022 because of concerns over Covid-19 and travel restrictions.
