Shirley Yeap was crowned Miss CosmoWorld 2021 in the pageant final held at Mega Star Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 30.
The 160cm (5’ 3”) tall content review analyst from Keningau, Sabah beat 11 other finalists to take home a prize package worth RM101,298.90 including RM10,000 cash and products from sponsors.
The crowd cheered when last year’s Miss CosmoWorld Malaysia 2020 winner Zoe Yeoh placed a crown on her head.
“I’m really grateful and it feels surreal to win the title. This was actually my very first pageant that I competed in,” said Yeap on her surprise win.
The pageant was a challenging experience for Yeap as this was her first step into pageantry but she is proud of the accomplishment.
“I wanted to do something for myself so I grabbed the challenge to get out of my comfort zone and to push myself mentally and physically.”
Yeap said she felt great to share the moment with her proud mum, a cancer survivor, who watched the final via livestream on Facebook.
“My mum wasn’t able to attend physically, but she was watching the pageant through Facebook live. She’s extremely proud that I joined this competition and won.
“I wish that I could bring a positive message to my mum and to show support and empower all the women out there.”
Yeap also won two subsidiary titles of Miss Charming and Miss Glamorous.
At the event, clinical psychologist Joyce Chao, from Perak, secured the first runner-up spot (prize worth RM70,467.90); while online marketer Tiffany Lee, from Ipoh, Perak grabbed the second runner-up position (prize worth RM55,804.90).
Chao also grabbed the Best Creativity subsidiary title while Lee scored a hat-trick, winning three subsidiary titles – Miss Personality, Miss Popularity and Miss Perfect Body.
Other subsidiary titles went to Faye Chan (Miss Beautiful Smile), Tan Jing Han (Miss Healthy) and Weevian Chew (Miss Talent).
The event was conducted under strict SOP to prevent spread of the Covid-19 outbreak, with attendees wearing face masks at all times and contestants wearing protective face shields while performing on stage.
Malaysian corporate figure and a member of the Selangor Royalty Y.M. Tengku Dato’ Dr. Hishammuddin Zaizi Tengku Bendahara Azman Shah Alhaj was the guest of honour present at the event.
Miss CosmoWorld founder Carrie Lee said, “I sincerely hope the participants of Miss CosmoWorld will continue to grow beyond this pageantry to be someone whom may influence the society positively.”
She expressed her thanks to everyone, including sponsors and her organizing team, who had been helpful and supported her in this year’s pageant, and to James Bak and Cosmo Team for their marvellous support in creating amazing program.
