Malaysia Retail Chain Association successfully raised RM11,000 via ‘Spare Your Coins for Charity’ campaign to help the less fortunate during the Covid-19 pandemic.

MRCA president Shirley Tay said the unique fundraising campaign which run from July until end of August 2021 encouraged donation of spare change in a variety of containers by its members.

“Our members have been badly affected by this pandemic with many who are still reeling from heavy financial losses incurred in the past 18 months of prolonged lockdowns. However, we still believe that good deeds are still possible through simple act of kindness. In this context, we encourage our members and their family members to collect their loose change in containers which are then donated for a good cause,” she said.

Tay said the RM11,000 raised has been donated equally among four charitable organizations which serve vulnerable communities such as the homeless, elderly, orphans and disabled persons.

“This project has shown that a combination of simple idea and human generosity can make a difference to the lives of many others,” Tan added.
