ADUN Kampung Tunku distributes mandarin oranges at local market

“Although it is a simple event but by meeting the people, being the elected representative, I will be able to receive first hand updates on issues and problems faced by the people,” said Lau.

Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San distributed mandarin oranges and ang pow packets to residents, traders and market patrons at the SEA Park market in Section 21, Petaling Jaya recently, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

During the hours walkabout, a total of 30 boxes of mandarin oranges and more than 100 ang pow packets were given away. People were happy to see their YB who greeted and shook hands with them and wished them a happy Chinese New Year.

“It is an event that I do for Sea Park market annually.

“Although it is a simple event but by meeting the people, being the elected representative, I will be able to receive first hand updates on issues and problems faced by the people,” said Lau.

Some people took the opportunity to highlight their problems with Lau, others asked him questions on current issues.

On the general election, Lau said: “A lot of people asked me if the general election will be held in March this year.

“My reply was very simple; that regardless of when the general election will be held and whether the state assembly will be dissolved simultaneously with Parliament, our works as elected representatives will continue and the state government’s policy of sharing the wealth of the state with the people will continue.”

On the water crisis Selangor could face, he said: “I would like to refute claims that Selangor is going to face water crisis in 2016.

“I have raised the matter in the state assembly during its last sitting and discovered that Syabas has been making self-conflicting statements with regards to the year Selangor is going to face water crisis.

“Syabas can actually leave a good name behind by returning their concessionaires to the state government and allowing the state to have direct control of such public utility.

“The Selangor state government under Pakatan Rakyat will not give-in easily to private companies as we have to stop them from raising water tariffs.

“According to the concessionaire agreement, the people in Selangor have to pay 72% more for water in 2015.”
