Celebrate unity and diversity this Malaysia Day with Keretapi Sarong 2025

Keretapi Sarong 2025 (KS25) returns on September 13 this year with the theme “Serumpun”, marking its ninth year as a signature Malaysia Day celebration.

The cultural event is organised by Locco, a community-driven initiative that aims to showcase the creativity of Malaysians in upholding traditional culture and at the same time displaying a strong spirit of unity.

Once again, thousands of participants will don the traditional sarong attire and ride together on public transport from 11 starting stations across the Klang Valley, uniting Malaysians in a moving cultural flash mob that embodies both diversity and solidarity.

Locco co-founder Shamsul Bahrin Zainuzzaman said this year’s edition goes beyond borders.

“Keretapi Sarong has grown into a Malaysia Day tradition and with the Serumpun theme, it reminds us that unity is not limited by geography. It is about shared heritage and a common rhythm that connects us as Malaysians and as part of the wider Asean family,” he said at a press conference at TGV Suria KLCC on September 3, 2025.

“Local and regional Serumpun flavour will underscore Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean this year, positioning KS25 as not just a cultural spectacle but also a regional statement of togetherness,” he added.

Participants will begin their journeys from Subang Jaya, Kajang, KL Sentral, Putrajaya Sentral, UPM, Gombak and five other stations, before merging at a central destination in Kuala Lumpur.

This year, the KS25 will be expanded to various locations in the country, with the flash mob event set to take place concurrently on Sept 13 in George Town, Ipoh, Kuantan, Sungai Petani, Pasir Mas, Johor Bahru and Melaka, reflecting how the movement has grown to embrace communities across the country, as well as in overseas locations to be announced in due course.

Internationally, the momentum is equally strong with overseas editions in Berlin and Melbourne on August 31, followed by London and Sydney on Sept 13.

The event, supported by RapidKL as main collaborator, will also feature creative showcases, performances and community-driven highlights.

“As the city’s public transport operator, Prasarana, through our service brand, Rapid KL, is honoured to be part of the Keretapi Sarong 2025 journey.

“Malaysia Day is not only about celebrating our history and identity, but also about how we move together as Malaysians, and this year, as part of the wider Serumpun family,” said Adli Abdul Karim, group communications and branding head at Prasarana Malaysia Berhad,

He added, “With the Rapid KL’s train and bus network serving as the heartbeat of this movement, we are proud to support a tradition that unites people through culture, art and mobility.”

Lead brand partners which support the event include Maggi, Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), Zus Coffee and Tourism Selangor.

Together with other partners, including Gardenia, One Drop Perfumes, Bulan Bintang, Madre, AirAsia, Yeo’s, KWC, Nando’s, Clinelle, Tudung Ruffle, TGV Cinemas, Fried Chillies, Media Prima, Rakita, TraXXfm, Ayam Gepuk Top Global and Air Selangor, KS25 reflects a broad coalition of support for culture, community and creativity.
