Former lawyer and retired judge of the Court of Appeal, Tan Sri Vadaketh Chacko George’s witty book features 100 anecdotes of wondrous tales throughout his remarkable career that span almost nine decades.
A not-to-be-missed book by former lawyer and retired judge of the Court of Appeal, Tan Sri Vadaketh Chacko George, fondly known as VC George, was officially launched by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at the Royal Selangor Club, Dataran Merdeka on March 17, 2021.
The book titled ‘Some stories I have told and some that I haven’t’, written in a tongue-in-cheek style, takes readers on a journey that narrates stories of camaraderie, friendship and George’s illustrious career as a lawyer and judge.
The witty and humorous book features 100 anecdotes of wondrous tales throughout George’s remarkable life and career that span almost nine decades, beginning with the arrival of George’s parents from Kerala, India in 1925; to him going to London in the 50’s; to read for the English Bar; and his appointment as the sole Judge of the High Court in Raub, Pahang in 1980.
“It’s such an honour and privilege to have His Royal Highness, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, Sultan of Perak, here with us today. I’m most thankful and deeply grateful that Tuanku has consented to launch my book,” said the 90-year-old veteran judge.
The book cover is adorned with an artwork by Malaysia’s best-loved cartoonist Lat (whose real name is Datuk Mohammad Nor B. Mohammad Khalid) depicting caricatures of George and three past presidents of the Royal Selangor Club, i.e. Taib Andak, Harun Hashim and Eddie Flannagen, making their way to the club using a swinging rope bridge as the padang in Dataran Merdeka was being dug up to make way for an underground car park project.
George has pledged to donate the entire proceeds from the sale of the first print of the book to several charitable causes, including, amongst others, the Malaysian Bar’s Legal Aid Scheme.
‘Some stories I have told and some that I haven’t’ by VC George is available at BookXcess bookstores nationwide as well as online at bookxcessonline.com. The book’s recommended retail price is RM70.00.
