Maria Chin and Rajiv host CNY open house for PJ folk

PETALING JAYA – Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin and Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran jointly hosted CNY open house

Maria Chin and Rajiv tossing yee sang with the God of Prosperity during the DUN Bukit Gasing and Parlimen PJ CNY open house.

Petaling Jaya folk from all walks of life came together to mingle and forge ties at the Chinese New Year open house jointly hosted by Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran.

The event held at Lower Palm Square, Jaya One shopping mall, Petaling Jaya on Feb 9, 2020 drew a large multi-racial crowd undeterred dby the novel coronavirus outbreak. Some guests were seen wearing face masks as a precaution against coronavirus infection.

Maria Chin and Rajiv started the event with ‘yee sang’ tossing ceremony joined by about 100 people, including MBPJ councillor Terence Tan Teck Seng, Seri Damansara New Village village head (ketua kampong) Tommy Chin Keh Kong and Chinese village relations officer (pegawai perhubungan perkampungan cina) Tony Cheong.

Maria Chin and Rajiv received a greetings scroll from the lion dance troupe after performing in front of the crowd.
Guests were thrilled with lion dancers performing acrobatic stunts atop high poles.
Children participate in the CNY open house with a demonstration of wushu martial art.
Children riding in choreographed form on unicycles.
The 24-festive drum troupe of a primary school gave a boisterous performance.
DUN Bukit Gasing and Parlimen PJ CNY 2020 open house was held at Lower Palm Square, Jaya One shopping mall, Petaling Jaya on Feb 9.

Tents were setup where food and beverage were served for the residents to enjoy a sumptuous foodwhich included local delicacies like fried kuey teow, BBQ chicken wing, pau, fried rice, burger,angku kuih (red tortoise cake), hoong tau sui (Chinese dessert) and ice cream cone.

Residents were also treated to various performances including acrobatic lion dance, 24 festival drum, wushu, cultural dance, unicycle performance and Chinese yo-yo (diabolo).

There were also a meet up with God of Fortune and a free health check which included check on health of eyesblood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Maria Chin said she was happy to see residents from different ethnicities coming together and joining the celebration to understand and appreciate each other culture.  She wished everyone present a very happy and prosperous Chinese New Year.

Rajiv in his speech said the government was giving out financial aid to support the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) such as hiring incentives for employers who make the switch to hiring local labour and matching grants to digitise their business operations or automate their business processes.

He urged the SMEs business community to take advantage of the government aid to grow their businesses and help the country grow the economy.

At the end of his speechRajiv wished everyone good health, happiness, success and prosperity in the new year.
