STM Lottery Sdn Bhd has successfully concluded its sponsorship of a solar panel installation project at Yayasan Sunbeams Home as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being.

The solar energy initiative is aimed at helping to reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions, and to promote sustainability, creating a brighter and cleaner future for the children’s home.

The solar panels were installed at the boys’ dormitory on Jan 20, 2025, with the official launch, held a day before installation, attended by STM Lottery general manager (communications and sustainability) Giam Say Khoon and Yayasan Sunbeams Home founder Pastor Alvin Tan Ooi Seng.

Giam said, “The Sports Toto Rays of Hope Solar Energy Project is a new sustainable corporate social responsibility initiative under the Helping Hands community programme, and we are thrilled to partner with Yayasan Sunbeams Home on this important effort.

“By investing in solar energy, we are not only helping the home reduce its carbon footprint but also supporting a more cost-effective and sustainable future for the children.

“This project reflects our broader commitment to environmental responsibility and empowering communities through impactful CSR initiatives.

“We aim to benefit more charitable homes and organisations through this project.”

With the newly installed solar panels, Yayasan Sunbeams Home is expected to save about RM340 monthly in electricity costs. These monthly savings will enable the home to allocate more resources to the welfare and development of the children.

In addition to reducing operating costs, the solar energy system is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 140,000 kg of CO₂ equivalent over the next 25 years, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

Pastor Alvin said they were grateful for the support from STM Lottery in providing a reliable and eco-friendly energy source for Yayasan Sunbeams Home.

“This solar panel installation will make a real difference in our ability to provide a comfortable, efficient, and environmentally conscious environment for our children,” he said.

STM Lottery remains committed to initiatives that benefit both people and the planet. The company looks forward to building more partnerships that drive long-term, sustainable impact in local communities.
