PETALING JAYA – The 19-year-old law student, representing the Democratic Republic of Congo has been crowned Miss Africa Malaysia 2019.
Charlotte, a 19-year-old law student, representing the Democratic Republic of Congo has been crowned Miss Africa Malaysia 2019.
She clinched the 3rd Miss Africa Malaysia crown after beating eight other contestants from seven African countries, including Somalia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Guinea, Republic of Benin, Malawi and DR Congo.
She also won the Best Walk subsidiary title in her first ever pageant.
“It feels unbelievable that I’ve won the crown but I feel happy by the fact that I’ve made my mother proud.
“My motivation was my mother. She always wanted me to join a pageant and my friends also encourage me, so I thought it would be a good idea to join as I could challenge myself, fulfill my mom’s wish and get to experience it,” said Charlotte in an interview with Citizen Journalists Malaysia (CJMY).
Charlotte moved in to Kuala Lumpur on September last year. She is currently studying law at HELP University in Kuala Lumpur.
“When I was young, I was being “brainwashed” by my mom that I should study law as I’m talkative person, so as I grew up I developed an interest in it (specially criminal law), and decided to take up studying law to gain knowledge of different legal aspects and to avoid mathematics at all costs.
“I really enjoyed my stay in this country. I can say Malaysians are very friendly and welcoming.” she said.
Charlotte is confident about her future goals and ambitions. She dreams of becoming an actress someday.
“After finishing my undergraduate degree, I want to give my studies a break and focus on pursuing a career in modelling and acting. My dream is to become an actress.”
Charlotte enjoys hobbies such as dancing, travelling, making funny videos, playing soccer and watching documentaries and geography-related videos. She also likes learning new stuff like learning new drum beats and words in other languages from watching her favourite K-dramas during her free time.
Charlotte was crowned by last year’s winner Chilala from Zambia. Her prize package included cash of RM2,000, modelling contract and a 3D/2N island trip.
Fatimatou Diallo, 24, student, from Guinea, was named first runner-up with Lorraine, 23, also a student, from Zimbabwe finishing as second runner-up.
The grand finale took place on October 25, 2019 at the Bentley Music Auditorium in Mutiara Damanasara, Petaling Jaya.
