South Korean student crowned Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018

PETALING JAYA – Miss South Korea Soyeon Lim took the crown at the Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018 pageant final at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya

She was crowned by last year’s winner Miss Indonesia Sheryltha Pratyscha.

The 23-year-old business management undergraduate at Hong Kong Polytechnic University was over the moon after she won the coveted Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018 title defeating 28 contestants from across the world.

“I still can’t believe that I won the crown. I feel as though I’m walking on the moon,” she said.

The 5’ 10” (177cm) tall beauty also won The Time Keeper subsidiary title.

Soyeon Lim beat 28 contestants to take the title of Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018.

When asked what she thought about Malaysia, Soyeon said, “This is my first visit to Malaysia. Before I came here, I thought Malaysia is one of typical tourist places in South East Asia. However, when I arrived in Kuala Lumpur I was so surprised by the harmonized environment between metropolitans and nature. So, if I get the chance to spend my long vacation in a beautiful place, I would choose Malaysia. I really want to relax myself here and enjoy the vacation, and will only go back to city life for a moment when it becomes boring.”

Soyeon enjoys hobbies such as dancing and playing the piano.

Miss Cosmopolitan World founder and organizer Liew congratulated Soyeon Lim on her victory.

“This will be an amazing year ahead for you and Miss Cosmopolitan World team is determined to make the most of it for you. It will change your life before your eyes,” she said to a beaming Soyeon.

Miss Namibia Stephanie Silvia Tsuos, 25, model, was the first runner up and Miss Philippines Zoe Kirsten Zarate Carlyle, 18, model and student, was second runner upOther winners include Miss Lithuania Brigita Gaizauskaite, 20, student, dancer and model (third runner-up), and Miss Netherlands Kimberly Mady Ijsbrandij, 24, student and model (fourth runner-up).

Contestants from 29 countries, including Malaysia, vied for the main crown.

After the national costumes, bikini and evening wear competitions the contestants were whittled down to Top 10 and to final Top 5.

Malaysia’s representative 21-year-old student and part-time model Vivienna Alfred won the Best National Costume subsidiary title and made it to Top 10 finish.

The Malaysia’s home grown pageant also raised RM8,400 for Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia.  The money was raised through the charity auction of teddy bears decorated with embellishments by Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018 contestants.

It also donated RM5,000 to Perdana Global Peace Foundation, an NGO for encouraging global peace and permanently ending war.

Throughout the pageant week of activities, contestants visited the tourist attractions in Perak, Pahang, Penang and Kuala Selangor.

The pageant has received the support from Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and various tourism boards, including Penang Tourism, Tourism Perak Malaysia and Tourism Selangor.
