The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur welcomes the Year of the Dragon this Lunar New Year by honouring the cultural and historical significance of silk – a material that once facilitated the exchange of commodities, culture and knowledge between the East and West.
From now to Feb 18, 2024, ‘The Silk Story’ will see The Exchange TRX transformed into a living canvas, inviting shoppers to explore the significance of silk and its role in binding different communities together.
The celebration features captivating decorations, including an intricately-crafted giant revolving silk lantern with a mythical dragon flying through, ornate pop-ups and a stunning animated dragon intertwined with silk that will run the length of the three-storey flat iron screen.
During his opening speech at the Silk Story campaign launch on Jan 17, 2024, Trevor Hill, general manager of The Exchange TRX said the mall can become a beacon that celebrates cultural diversity and help bring both local and international communities together.
Meanwhile, Mitch Wilson, the project director of The Exchange TRX and head of retail at Lendlease Malaysia, said in a statement that The Exchange TRX hopes to bring local and international communities together, replaying the role silk had in cementing the prominence of Chinese culture internationally.
“Just as how TRX City Park showcases the biodiversity of Malaysia, The Exchange TRX will highlight the culture, heritage and core ideas of what make this country so unique. As a beacon of cultural diversity, The Exchange TRX honours the traditions of multi-cultural Malaysia by creating campaigns that forge a unified community experience and celebrates our collective heritage,” he said.
There will be interactive craft workshops that will allow visitors to engage with silk in a hands-on way.
Visitors will also be entertained with performances held on weekends, ranging from an oriental music ensemble, traditional dragon and acrobatic lion dances, silk dances and a Lunar New Year performance by Taylor’s International School.
As part of this auspicious celebration, The Exchange TRX will be joining hands with its retailers on initiatives that positively impact the community in a meaningful way.
Teaming up with Uniqlo, The Exchange TRX will donate T-shirts from the brand’s latest Lunar New Year UTme! collection to 50 children, with each child receiving a uniquely customised T-shirt based on their zodiac sign.
The Exchange TRX will also collaborate with upscale supermarket Mercato, to provide Lunar New Year goodies for 100 families with the Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia.
Throughout the campaign period, shoppers who spend RM388 in a single receipt will receive an intricately designed angpow packet set.
UOB or Citi-branded cardmembers who spend RM288 in a single receipt can also take home the elegant angpow packets, in addition to receiving RM20 worth of gift vouchers from Seibu department store.
