Suria KLCC Group evokes nostalgia and tradition this Raya celebration

The three malls managed by the Suria KLCC Group has recreated coastal fishing villages of the East Coast evoking nostalgia feeling to shoppers this Hari Raya.

With the first and second days of Hari Raya this year falling on April 22 and 23, Suria KLCC mall is evoking a kampung feeling to shoppers and bringing back memories of the days of living in a kampung for some with its Hari Raya campaign starting March 24 until May 1, 2023.

The centre court of Suria KLCC features a traditional wooden rumah kampung (village house) that immerses visitors in the vibrant atmosphere of a Malaysian village. Elevated on stilts with expansive windows, the village houses are set amidst a picturesque landscape dotted with coconut trees.

An interactive wayang kulit gives shoppers a hands-on experience of controlling the movement of the shadow puppets and takes them behind the scene of Malay traditional art of storytelling.

Apart from that, visitors can have a go at nostalgic childhood games such as teng teng (hopscotch), gasing (spinning top) and congkak.

There will be cultural dance performances at the centre court and Ramlee Mall, throughout the Raya campaign period.

A photo booth is also available for shoppers to take festive photos with loved ones.

At Esplanade KLCC, the 50-ft Pelita Replica that made it into the Malaysia Book of Records in 2022 as the Largest Pelita Replica will make a comeback this year to be showcased along with other traditional Hari Raya elements.

“Being a prominent mall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, this is our way of bringing Malay culture, traditions and stories to the diverse people who visit Suria KLCC from around Malaysia and around the world each year during Ramadhan and Hari Raya.

“As we continue to create festive experiences to delight visitors, we hope this Raya season brings new-found appreciation for Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage,” said Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd executive director and CEO Andrew Brien.

From March 30 until April 24 April, shoppers can enjoy great rewards and savings when they shop at Suria KLCC

Shoppers who spend RM1,000 in two receipts at any specialty stores will receive RM100 worth of Suria KLCC Shopping e-Vouchers and a set of exclusive Suria KLCC Raya Packets.

In addition, the first 100 shoppers who purchase RM1,000 worth of SKLCC e-Vouchers will receive an additional RM100 worth of e-Vouchers.

Throughout Ramadan, the Concierge Team will hand out ‘kurma’ (dates) in preparation for shoppers to break their fast.

In an ongoing initiative of the Mental Health Awareness programme, Suria KLCC has pledged to support NGOs championing mental health through monetary sales of the Suria Ribbon Pin. The ribbon pin can be purchased from the concierge at RM10 per pin.

Alamanda Putrajaya

From March 31 to April 21, 2023, Alamanda Shopping Centre’s Raya theme features the charming coastal fishing village.

Exciting activities that await shoppers include traditional performances such as the pencak silat, dikir barat, gamelan dance, caklempong and kompang berirama.

In conjunction with Hari Raya, Alamanda Shopping Centre gives back to the community by inviting the children of Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Yatim/Miskin Rukaiyah to break fast at a buka puasa session. These children will also get to enjoy festive performance, shop for new Raya attires as well as receive duit raya.

There is also a redemption programme for shoppers to receive an exclusive three-tier tiffin carrier, as well as Alamanda Raya packets, when they spend RM700 in two receipts at any specialty stores.

High-spenders who spend RM1,500 and above will receive a RM50 Alamanda shopping voucher on top of the tiffin carrier and Raya packets.

Mesra Mall

The coastal fishing village theme also makes an appearance at Kemaman’s Mesra Mall. The decorations feature a small village harbour providing a haven for a fleet of fishing boats. The nostalgic atmosphere reflects the carefree life in a typical Malay fishing village.

The mall has lined up a number of performances on April 8 and 15, including silat performance at 2 pm and Hari Raya traditional dance at 3 pm.

There will also be a Shawl Tutorial and Fashion Show presented by Rasa Sayang, FOS, Siti Khadijah and Kidz on April 7 at 4 pm.

Shoppers will be rewarded when they spend at Mesra Mall. With every RM500 spent in a maximum of three receipts at any specialty stores, they can redeem a surprise Hari Raya premium item, an exclusive Mesra Mall three-tier tiffin carrier and premium Mesra Mall Raya packets.

VIKids members can enjoy a host of activities such as craft competition on April 7 at 2.30 pm, Greeting Card competition and Felt Raya Packet competition.  

Girls aged 3 to 10 years will have the chance to flaunt their Raya outfits in the ‘Miss Little Raya’ competition on April 14. While the boys in primary school will get to show off their moves in a dance competition on April 7.

All competitions for children are exclusive to VIKids members. Those who are not members can sign up with a RM50 spend prior to taking part in the activity.

In conjunction with Nuzul Quran, Mesra Mall will give away 500 packets of bubur lambuk. on April 8 from 11 am to 5 pm.

The less fortunate are not forgotten as the mall management together with local authorities and sponsors will be breaking fast with orphans from Persatuan Kebajikan Al-Islam Huzai Kemaman.

This community engagement programme, called the Jalinan Mesra, will be held at Mesra Hall on April 6 from 5 pm to 8.30 pm.
