Amanda Ong, 38, who was crowned Mrs Malaysia Universe 2022 on July 9, 2022 on her first pageant, has her sights set on the global stage.
This time, she is competing to win the coveted title of Mrs Universe 2022.
The mother of a four-year-old daughter has jetted off to Sofia, Bulgaria on Jan 28 to represent Malaysia for the 45th Mrs Universe 2022 final from Jan 30 to Feb 4, 2023.
Amanda recently unveiled her upcoming “Srikandi Malaya Warriorku” national costume and evening gown for the Mrs Universe 2022 competition.
Amanda said the national costume named Srikandi Malaya Warriorku depicts a gallant woman heroine and warrior called Tun Fatimah known during her time in the 13th century to be protecting the weak and marginalized.
The costume is designed by Ain Mohamad, the costume designer from Kelantan.
The Selangor-born beauty has made awareness-raising campaign on domestic violence her mission. The tigers and the stripes symbolize the Malayan tiger which is a national symbol of Malaysia, representing her fearlessness and strength in fighting domestic violence
The head gear with the 14-point star and crescent is part of Malaysia’s national flag, which symbolizes love, patriotism and placing the country above all.
For the evening gown by Star Fashion, this exquisite and stylish evening dress is truly magnificent and sophisticated in style, exudes a confident sense of elegance and yet versatile. It symbolizes modern women in the new society, who are able to empower other women to prevent and fight domestic violence.
Amanda will be wearing the national costume and evening gown as she competes for the coveted Mrs Universe 2022 crown with more than 100 finalists from around the world.
Children from Arabesque Dance Academy performed at the press event to unveil the national costume and evening gown.
“I am absolutely excited to be taking part in Mrs Universe and I want to enjoy every moment of this prestigious event and do my best,” she said.
Amanda said she will use the opportunity to promote Malaysia’s beauty at the Mrs Universe 2022 pageant.
“I am a golfer and diver myself, and I think Malaysia has a lot to offer in terms of culture and diversity. I would promote our beautiful golf courses and beaches like Redang and Sipadan, as all these are the true gems to attract international tourists.
“I have my sponsor European Wellness to sponsor wellness supplements to contestants as wellness. Retreat holidays in Malaysia are well known as well, I hope to promote Malaysia overall as there is so much to offer.”
The private banker in a local bank said this pageant advocates for education and builds self-confidence.
She explained: “Mrs Universe beauty pageant is more to educational and confidence boosting for married women like me and in addition, I learn that beauty equals success and no one can stop a woman from achieving her dreams.”
Amanda is an avid advocate for higher education as she believes it is a pathway for anyone who seek change for a better life. She strongly supports education and awareness on domestic violence and has been invited to share her experiences, deliver keynote speech, motivational talks and podcasts with the desire of encouraging women to always be a better version of themselves.
Since her crowning as Mrs Universe Malaysia, Amanda has been accorded the Social Impact Personality Award, actively involved in Ti-Ratana Welfare Society Malaysia and other charitable organizations for the various social causes she supports.
