18-year-old Chloe Angelina Yap from Selangor has been named the Face of Malaysia 2022 female champion and Lim Jia Hong, 28, from Negeri Sembilan took the male champion title.
The Face of Malaysia 2022 grand finale was held at Quill Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur on July 23, 2022.
Both of these aspiring models will represent Malaysia to compete at the 17th 2022 Asia Model Festival Face of Asia finals in Uijeongbu, Korea in October, 2022.
The first and second runner-up places for the female category went to Tiara Tai and Rina, respectively.
In the male category, Mutalib and Kris Lim took the first and second runner-up titles, respectively.
Aside from the two winners, International Celebrity Pageant Group president and founder Lennard Tan revealed that first runner-up Tiara Tai in the female category will also get to compete in Korea.
“The three winners will represent Malaysia to compete for the Face of Asia 2022 model title. I hope they will do their best to represent our country and bring home the Asia’s top model title for us.
“We will also be sending 12 participants from Face of Malaysia Junior to represent Malaysia as runway models for Asian Open Collection,” he said.
The competition was organised by the International Celebrity Pageant Group and presented by MK Group.
Standing tall at 178cm (5’ 10”), Chloe looked shock after the announcement of her victory.
“I was happy and shock at the same time as I wasn’t expecting it, but I had given my best.”
Chloe also won four subsidiary titles of Perfect Body, Most Confident, Best Catwalk and Most Photogenic.
The eighteen-year-old obtained her SPM results a few months back and hopes to continue her studies in Business at a university, while keeping modelling at bay as part-time model.
Chole works part-time as a model and having done fashion shows for KL Fashion Week, Pavilion CNY and Raya Fashion Shows.
She has always had a keen interest in modelling and the fashion industry ever since she was a little girl.
“I loved watching runway videos and it made me imagine myself walking for designers on the runway as well.”
“I learned my catwalk from my modelling agency. I’m with them for almost two years now.”
When asked what was her greatest strength that helped her succeed in the competition, Chloe said: “It’s my height and catwalk taught by my catwalk coach, that I draw strength from in all of this.
The biggest challenge she faced during the competition wasn’t something she had foreseen.
“I fell very ill during the second semi-final and bootcamp. It was hard as I felt like my health was affecting my performance during photoshoots and group activities. I wasn’t optimistic about my chances. I struggled to keep control of myself and I won the champion prize. I couldn’t be happier.”
As for her ambition in the future, Chloe said: “I’d really like to model and walk in international fashion weeks in countries like New York and Milan, and also to make my parents and teachers proud of my achievements and how far I have come from.
Lim, a business development executive, was as equally surprised as Chloe when he was announced the male winner of Face of Malaysia 2022.
“When my name was called out, my heart had stopped for a second, then started to beat vigorously in the next moment. There will be no excuse for me to back down anymore, but only to keep improving and be a better me in future.
“It’s a combination of hard work and luck that helped me win this very first modelling competition in my life,” he said.
Lim, who stands 182cm (6’ 0”), also bagged the subsidiary titles of Best Catwalk and Most Photogenic subsidiary titles.
Lim expressed his utmost gratitude to all his supporters, including his catwalk coach, his life companion Eve, best friend Aden and family for their unwavering support in the entire competition.
Lim completed his education in Multimedia University (MMU) majoring in mechanical engineering.
