The Art of Speed 2022 custom car and bike show drew thousands of fans for a great 10th anniversary celebration, proving its huge success after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition to the custom cars and motorcycles on display throughout the two days from July 2-3 at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), the event also featured Roda Rumble 2022 two-wheels gathering, La Cultura Chicano culture appreciation gathering, vintage flea market, Alfa Romeo Club Malaysia gathering, Mini Crawlers RC demo and display, new product launching and test ride zone for bike such as Royal Enfield, Vespa, Aprilia and Harley-Davidson.
Hot Wheels always have a big presence at AOS and this year, they awed the crowd with a life-sized Bone Shaker monster truck.
This year, foreign guests from the international custom community and media included Emi Suganuma, Sunny Yano and Michi “NATQQ” from Mooneyes Japan, Scott Johnson from Mama Tried Motorcycle Show USA, Warren Heir Jr. from Flat Out Friday USA, chopper and kustom artist Russel Murchie “MOW” Australia, Dino Dalle Carbonare from Speedhunters.com Japan, Yasuo Sekijima and Satoru Ise from Vibes Magazine Japan, pinstripe artist Mil from Millart Indonesia, and diecast modeller Aekalak Kitdusitpong from AKARA Thailand.
The Art of Speed Invitational Bike Build Off 2022 featured seven talented local builders who competed for the RM10,000 cash prize (jury selection) and RM5,000.00 cash prize (public choice).
The overall jury pick winner was awarded to Skatecture from Kuching, Sarawak, while the public choice was awarded to Moto Buruk Garage from Penang.
Visitors were enthralled by the NoEqual.co’s NEAT Fest with their curated “Garage Life” exhibit, and Hail Vintage work wear exhibition which also served exquisite flavours of Kelantan kopitiam food at its Jubilee Antique Cafe.
This year’s Kustom & Koffee Talk featured overseas panelists Scott Johnson from Mama Tried Motorcycle Show and Warren Heir Jr. from Flat Out Friday. The forum discussed the latest trends in bike and car industries.
Awards were presented by AOS2022 in dozens of categories, including “Best Display Car,” “Best Display Motorcycle” and “Best of Mega Car & Motorcycle Club Gathering.”
Two lucky winners were announced during the Lucky Draw. The first winner Muhammad Khairul Anas Rohani from Parit Buntar, Perak won the EV Classic Vespa scooter, while the second winner Muhammad Khairul Izwan Muhammad Saufi from Sg. Buloh, Selangor took home the Hausboom customized EV Classic Vespa.
The Sound Circus Festival, a crowd puller at AOS, featured outdoor music festival and indoor LIVE stage at Hall A, had a line-up that featured Hujan as the main headline alongside bands such as Sekumpulan Orang Gila, Flop Poppy, SweetAss, Iqbal M. and Balok People.
The event also witnessed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing between Elders Elettrico and 405 Industries as technological partners for EV conversion. The partnership aims to expand the EV conversion market in Malaysia and work with the government in developing regulatory matters regarding EV conversions.
Other AOS 2022 activities included Food Park food vendors and trucks, Hot Wheels Club Malaysia and Streetware Con streetwear fashion vendors galore.
Buoyed by the success of the first physical staging of Art of Speed 2022 since the onset of the pandemic, the AOS team announced for next year’s AOS – 11th Art of Speed Festival – will be held on July 29-30, 2023 at same venue MAEPS Serdang.
